The Arab Council for the Social Sciences (ACSS) held its Second Research Forum on June 2-4, 2016 in Algeria.
Bringing together ACSS grantees, fellows and trustees and selection committee members, the Research Forum serves as an important venue for the ACSS community in the following ways:
-
The Forum is an opportunity for grantees to present, discuss, and receive feedback on their ongoing research.
-
The Forum aims to be a productive space for collaboration across the Arab region and across disciplines.
-
The Forum is an intensive learning experience for general academic issues such as research methodologies, writing and publishing, research ethics, career opportunities and so on.
-
The Forum is an occasion for all participants to get to know other researchers in the region, to thicken their networks, create new relationships, and increase dialogue.
-
The Forum is an important vehicle for working together towards a more dynamic and cooperative research culture, for bettering the overall quality of produced research from the region and for increased regional and global publications and dissemination.
Participants were drawn from three ACSS programs: the New Paradigms Factory, the Research Grants Program on Inequality, Mobility and Development and the Postdoctoral Fellowships Program.
On the sidelines of the event, the ACSS organized a panel to launch the First Arab Social Science Report on the forms of presence of social sciences in the Arab region. The report is a key output of the Arab Social Science Monitor, one of the major projects of the ACSS.
The ACSS Research Forum is held once every two years.
