The Arab Council for the Social Sciences (ACSS) held its Third Research Forum on April 4-7, 2018 in Amman, Jordan.
Bringing together ACSS grantees, fellows, trustees and selection committee members, the Research Forum serves as an important venue for the ACSS community in the following ways:
Participants were drawn from the following ACSS programs: the Research Grants Program on Environmentalism, Impoverishment and Social Justice Movements, the Postdoctoral Fellowships Program, and the Small Grants Program.
In addition to the grantees' research presentation and discussion sessions, the event included roundtables on research ethics in the social sciences; careers, research and action; funding opportunities in the Arab region; critical reengagement with Arab theories; writing and publishing in Arabic; and ways of involvement with the ACSS.
On the sidelines of the event, the ACSS organized a panel for the Arab Social Science Monitor (ASSM), one of the major projects of the ACSS. Titled "Arab Social Sciences: Where, What and Who?", the panel aimed to introduce the ACSS and the ASSM to the Jordanian public, and present an overview of the objectives and content of the Arab social science reports, which are one of the key ASSM publications.
The ACSS Research Forum is held once every two years.
